History

Calangute was a sleepy fishing village until the 1960s when hippies discovered its long stretches of golden sand. By 1970s, it became Goa's premier beach destination with shack culture, nightlife & international tourism boom. Named after nearby Kalo temple, evolved from Portuguese-era fishing hamlet to party capital.

October-March (pleasant 25-32°C). 10km from Panaji capital, 40km from Dabolim Airport, 18km from Mapusa. Frequent buses from Panaji, prepaid taxis available. Best reached via Konkan Railway to Thivim (12km) or direct flights to Goa airports.
